EUREKA — November 2, 2026. The Eureka Police Department launched its Sober Streets Eureka public education and DUI enforcement campaign on October 30, 2026, with operations planned through January 2, 2027.
The problem described by the department
Eureka police reported 147 DUI arrests between January 1 and September 30, 2026. Thirty-nine of those arrested were involved in an impaired-driving collision, according to the October 30 city announcement. These arrest totals do not describe all city traffic collisions.
How the campaign will work
The department plans targeted enforcement during the holiday season, supported by the California Office of Traffic Safety and Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program, alongside regular patrol activity. Prior department initiatives collected more than 460 responses to a traffic safety survey.
A preventable danger
Police advise residents to plan sober transportation before drinking or using impairing substances. The announcement does not identify checkpoints, guaranteed enforcement locations or a reduction in collisions that has already happened.
